Katie Couric Says The Matt Lauer Scandal Was ‘Very Painful’ – Here’s Why!

Katie Couric talked about how the firing of her former Today co-host Matt Lauer made her feel. As you know already, the man was involved in a shocking sexual misconduct scandal that led to him getting axed by NBC.

During her appearance on Wendy Williams’ talk show, the woman described the scandal as very ‘painful.’

‘It has been a very painful time for a lot of people who worked with Matt, knew him, care about him, and who never witnessed any of the behavior that is now being talked about. I do not know the full extent of these things that happened. I can just talk about my personal experience and I was always treated respectfully and appropriately,’ she told Wendy.

When she was asked if she believes Lauer has any chance of returning on the small screen, Couric replied that it all depends on the path ‘he chooses and how he [handles] what happened.’

She noted that a comeback would definitely be ‘challenging,’ however.

Matt Lauer was fired by the network back on November 29 last year after they received a ‘detailed complaint’ about his inappropriate behavior.

Soon after, articles about the sexual harassment accusations coming from three different women started to appear.

One statement supposedly from Lauer and read by Savannah Guthrie claimed: ‘Some of what’s being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there’s enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.’

In fact, Couric, who is now defending Lauer was part of why the scandal became so big.
At the time, she was asked while on Watch What Happens Live what was his most annoying habit.


Couric later explained that ‘I think that is very illustrative of the current media, that something can be plucked, and taken out of context. It is a silly joke on a late-night show that’s that – a silly joke. People read into everything too much and I think it goes with the territory.’
