In a report from The Daily Mail, Markle did not ask Judith Weir, the Queen’s official composer, to take over the music for the day, and instead, they chose a gospel choir and a young cellist to perform.
Many people in the African-American community have claimed that Meghan is making the wedding, “black AF.” One person wrote, “Oh ya, it’s great that she’s bringing the blackness to the royal wedding. Nobody wants to hear that old school church music at the wedding, we need songs from the choir.”
When speaking with the organization, Weir confirmed that the family had not asked her to perform or create a piece for Meghan’s big day.
When Prince William and Kate Middleton got married back in 2011, two pieces of music performed by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies were featured on the big day.
Sources close to the family explained to us, “Markle is bringing a special and unique flair to the royal family that is totally new and unlike anything the palace has ever seen.”
When Judith spoke at the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards, she explained, “it isn’t technically a State occasion.” So, that’s partially the reason why she won’t be performing there because the ceremony isn’t associated with the British government.
A classical orchestra or not, it looks like this year’s biggest wedding is shaping up to be a blast. An insider who spoke with us explained, “Meghan and Harry are really happy about this. It’s going to be phenomenal.”
