Hailey Baldwin Tweeted About Wanting to Date Shawn Mendes in 2013

On Monday, Hailey Baldwin and Shawn Mendes attended the Met Gala 2018, where they walked the red carpet arm in arm. They both wore Tommy Hilfiger and gave us couple goals when Shawn fixed Hailey's dress like a true gentleman; later, they sang karaoke on a party bus with Ruby Rose and Kendall Jenner, proving that age-old adage, "If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends." Now there's even more adorable information about the new couple: Hailey tweeted about wanting to date Shawn back in 2013.

Pop Crave found the very old tweet (which has since been deleted) and posted it on Twitter alongside a photo of the pair. Hailey's original tweet, dated October 9, 2013, read, "Hey Shawn Mendes, let's date so you can sing to me all day. I'm joking but not really.." At the time, the tweet did not go unnoticed by Shawn, who tweeted out a month later, "Just finding out now that @haileybaldwin tweeted at me !"

Though dating rumors between the two didn't kick up until late 2017, it seems Hailey willed this pairing to happen — and that's true foresight.

It turns out true Hailey and Shawn stans have known about this tweet for a while because they've turned into a meme of hopes and dreams for dating other celebrities. One person tweeted, "Hey @nickjonas, let’s date so you can sing to me all day. I’m joking but not really... (this worked for hailey Baldwin who is now dating Shawn mendes)." Another one, from December 2017, read, "Hey Tom Holland, let’s date so you can have the privilege to have me by your side all day. I’m joking but not really.." Hey, if you can dream it, you can achieve it.
