In an interview, he gave #Legend magazine, he started by explaining that his single ‘Familiar,’ is a song about the chase, ‘where you see someone you really like, and you just want to get to know them more.’
Also during that same talk with the publication, Liam confessed that his time in One Direction was really getting to his head.
‘Fame made me a bit nuts and distracted me from the person I really was. And it pissed me off in the end because it was like, ‘You could’ve always been this guy, but you chose to do that.’ Nobody really knew anything about me. I put on a front that was not really me,’ he admitted.
We’re sure diehard fans of One Direction will be disappointed to hear this, but Liam made it very clear that the hiatus was a blessing for him.
‘I remember the day we finished, because of the place I was in, I was happy we had a break. I said to the person who was with me at the time, ‘Thank God I do not have to play that person again for a long time.’ It was exhausting, and I could not keep up with myself. But now that I have had my time away, you slowly and naturally become the person you were before starting, but with a lot more knowledge.’
But in the end, even though the members’ solo careers have changed their relationships, there is no doubt that their shared experiences will forever bind them together.
‘Even going to see [Louis Tomlinson] the other day—it is nice to meet people and have them see how you’re now because you can understand all the things you might’ve done wrong or things you might have regretted doing,’ Liam went on.
As for the band’s dynamic, he admitted they weren’t always on the best terms behind the scenes.
‘We got on well in One Direction, but there were times when we did not. Certain members fell out with each other sometimes, but it would always come back round. So, I don’t ever think that I won’t be friends with these people for life. I think it’s important in anything that you can think about everything you would’ve liked to change about yourself and then grow.’
