Blake Lively gave many fans quite the startle on May 1st when she completely wiped her Instagram of all pictures, including ones of her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and unfollowed him.

After a bit of navigating that was left of her page, it became clear that the move was made as a viral social media promotion for her new film A Simple Favor.

It seems to have been successful because various social media platforms and entertainment publications were alerted and trying to figure out just what was the catalyst for such a move.

At this point, Lively has reinstated her Instagram account and refollowed her husband.

Sources say that the two share various aspects of their careers with one another and have a very transparent relationship regarding their work.

Despite Reynolds acting jokingly shocked about Lively’s Instagram changes, he knew about it beforehand.

In her return to the Instagram world, Lively penned a hilarious caption that highlights the absurdity of some social media cultural expectations and unspoken rules.

She felt that her first post back after the brief film promotion detour was the perfect opportunity to use a picture that she has forgotten to post.

In a funny, stream-of-consciousness type of caption, she explains the overthinking that sometimes goes into the management of a social media account like Instagram.

There are so many rules that people decide to follow arbitrarily regarding what someone is allowed to post at what time and with what emojis and hashtags.

There is a social media playbook that is somehow assumed and unwritten for those who use such platforms that can sometimes be monotonous, exhausting and wholly unnecessary.

Because really, no one needs an excuse to post a picture from a couple of weeks ago. Or feel like a throwback is disqualified because it was initially taken a week ago instead of 15 years ago.

Her caption is a quintessential example of how much stock we put into the weird societal frameworks that sort of appear out of nowhere but are somehow silently agreed upon.

It also highlights how much a person can get in their head about something that ultimately doesn’t really bear much matter or meaning.
