After the court and jury convicted Bill Cosby as guilty on all three counts of sexual assault, he lost one of his most prestigious honors in the Hollywood scene.
According to a report from Us Weekly, both Bill and Roman Polanski – who fled the United States years ago after reports that he slept with underage girls – are permanently barred from The Board Of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts.
Following Cosby’s conviction, The Academy released a statement where they revealed their decision to drop Cosby as well as Polanski from their list of honored members.
As you may know, Polanski fled the United States back in 1978 while he awaited his statutory rape sentencing. On the 1st of May, the board made the decision to ban both men, according to a report from Variety.
Bill Cosby’s fallout from Hollywood has been harsh and swift. It all started back in 2014 when a comedic routine from the comedian, Hannibal Buress, went viral online. In the skit, Hannibal joked about Cosby’s rape accusation involving Andrea Constand in 2004.
The comedian joked that it was incredibly hypocritical of Bill Cosby to pretend to be such an upright and morally righteous man, telling black people to pull up their pants, meanwhile, he drugged and sexually assaulted women. After the clip circulated on YouTube, over sixty other women accused Bill of similar crimes, including drugging, raping, and other forms of sexual assault.
The Academy has had a busy year this year, as they also expelled the disgraced producer, Harvey Weinstein, from the board as well. Harvey was accused of comparable transgressions, with Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, and Rose McGowan being the most active and outspoken of all his critics.
