Fans were heartbroken to be reminded what would have been. As you may be aware, before they decided to break their engagement, John Cena and Nikki Bella’s wedding was actually scheduled to take place today!
Instead, the former pair took to social media to separately share some messages.
It looks like Nikki and John are trying their best to remain positive while moving on from their romance.
They were set to tie the knot in Mexico, on May 5 but they broke up unexpectedly last month.
‘If you choose to keep moving, no matter how low the road takes you, it’ll eventually begin to climb back up. #NeverGiveUp,’ John Cena tweeted this morning.
In addition, he also took to Instagram to share an ambiguous post of the Day Zero by Kresley Cole cover, without really explaining anything.
Last night, Nikki also seemed to be thinking about what could have been, sharing: ‘Chin up princess or the crown slips.’
Seeing these posts, fans got just as emotional.
‘If you need me I will be crying because today was supposed to be Nikki and John Cena’s wedding,’ one fan tweeted.
‘Today would’ve been John Cena and Nikki Bella’s wedding day. I was really rooting for them. Whelp,’ another user wrote.
Nikki and John started dating in 2012 and it seemed like they were on the right path to forever but on April 15, they announced their split.
In a joint statement, the exes said: ‘While the decision was difficult, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for each other. We ask you to respect our privacy during this time in our lives.’
Ten days later while in attendance at CinemaCon on April 25, John Cena opened up about the split, saying: ‘It sucks. There is no other way to say. I love Nicole with all of my heart. The one take away – and it really sucks – but the one take away I can have for me is that … because I feel heartbroken, I know I was in love and will never be able to take that away.’
